Mini Conferences

This summer, Region 18 is planning a mini conference with 'hands on' projects. So far we have talked about 'Creating Artroom Blogs', 'National Art Honor Society', 'Clay Printing', 'Coffee Painting', 'Found Object Jewelry', and ' "DeMented" Toys' . It' ll be in June or July, and probably in Odessa or Andrews. Please check back before the end of May, we'll be posting more info.

I'll post everything you send!!! Tell me how many and what region, and the name of your school. This is for Regions 15, 18 and 19.

Region 18 Andrews High School

We leave for Houston at 6:30AM on Friday April 17th. Which means we leave Andrews at 4:30AM!!! I hate this part!! We'll be staying at Clear LAke, instead of our beloved Galveston this year. Our very favorite hotel, with the most amazing view(and reasonable prices!!) wasn't opened back up yet. We will be spending all day Sunday at the beach, but our hotel choices were limited since the hurricane. Can't wait to see the place for myself, to see how it is faring 8 months later. There will be 4 students going this year, and one for her THIRD time!!

This event is state wide and approx. 2000 artworks from high schools all over the state will be there. What an opportunity for our students to travel to the event, to have their art exhibited and to see the exceptional art of their peers. Every year my students get back to Andrews excited, inspired and ready to get to work for next year.

Hello out there!!

Our area covers from San Angelo to El Paso, and Terlingua to Andrews – hundreds of square miles of land dotted with little pockets of thriving art communities and our schools are connected by one event – VASE!

As always, VASE is the biggest news in our area.

Laree Morris is Region 18’s VASE director and in February 2008, she brought Region 15’s San Angelo on board for their first VASE. They participated with us in February 2008, but will be kicking off their own event in February 2009! We are so excited for them!

On the farthest west corner of the great state of Texas, Region 19 will hold their high school VASE on February 21, 2009, at Montwood High School in El Paso and the junior high VASE will be held on May 3, 2009 at Ensor Middle School also in El Paso.

We look forward to seeing everyone at conference next month, and at the state event in April 2009.

The Gold Seal Show was in Odessa in October of 2007. What a treat for all of us to have such an amazing collection of artwork here. And Region 18 is still in ‘MOJO Mania Mode’ since Permian High School’s Laree Morris was chosen as the 2007 High School Division Outstanding Art Educator. Way to go Laree!!
